"Le matin
Après avoir pris une douche froide
--...quelle erreur...
je me regarde dans le miroir.
Là, un drôle de type,
Cheveux gris, barbe blanche, peau ridée,
--...quel pitié...
Un homme pauvre, sale, vieux
Ce n'est pas moi, absolument pas.
La terre et la vie
Pêcher dans l'océan
Dormir dans le désert avec les étoiles
Construire un abri dans les montagnes
Cultiver à l'ancienne
Chanter avec les coyotes
Chanter contre la guerre nucléaire
Je ne serai jamais fatigué de la vie.
Maintenant, j'ai dix-sept ans,
Un jeune homme très charmant.
Je suis assis tranquillement en position du lotus,
méditant, méditant pour rien.
Soudain, une voix me vient :
"Pour rester jeune,
Pour sauver le monde,
Brise le miroir."
Nanao Sakaki
Nanao Sakaki est un poète japonais né en 1923 et mort le 22 décembre 2008. Ancien combattant de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il adopte ensuite une vie d'errance et écrit de la poésie avec, comme base, le quartier de Shinjuku à Tōkyō.
In the morning
After taking cold shower
—-what a mistake—-
I look at the mirror.
There, a funny guy,
Grey hair, white beard, wrinkled skin,
—-what a pity—-
Poor, dirty, old man,
He is not me, absolutely not.
Land and life
Fishing in the ocean
Sleeping in the desert with stars
Building a shelter in the mountains
Farming the ancient way
Singing with coyotes
Singing against nuclear war—
I’ll never be tired of life.
Now I’m seventeen years old,
Very charming young man.
I sit quietly in lotus position,
Meditating, meditating for nothing.
Suddenly a voice comes to me:
“To stay young,
To save the world,
Break the mirror.”
